Katie Bryl, Graphic Designer
I am a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, with my BFA in Graphic Design. I have always been an artist, ever since I was little. Art runs in my family: my grandma and many of my aunts, uncles, and cousins are painters, house renovators or simply crafty and my dad has a knack for photography. So I grew up in a creative environment.
In high school, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but I knew I loved art so I loaded my class schedule with every art class my school offered. Eventually, I ran out of painting and drawing classes and moved on to photography, and eventually graphic design. It was then that I fell in love with digital art and media and decided that I wanted to pursue a career in Graphic Design.
The Brylliant name actually was inspired by my Aunt Barb, who years ago set up her email account as bbrylliant. I was young, so naturally, I thought this was the coolest thing in the whole world, but as I grew up, this feeling never left me. It was such a great feeling to see my last name appropriated into such a positive, inspiring thing.
This drove my design as I grew and when it came time to brand myself as a professional designer I couldn't get Brylliant out of my head. It was perfect.
"Ideas... design... brilliant ideas...light bulb, click! Brylliant Design!"
I was born and raised in Linthicum, Maryland, just outside of Baltimore and spent many weekends downtown. I lived there for 14 years before we moved to Florida. I attended Flagler Palm Coast High School
in Palm Coast, Florida. It was here that I refined my creative hobbies into a potential career path, as I took art classes and participated in the IB programme.
Upon being accepted to Savannah College of Art and Design, I chose the Atlanta Campus, as I missed Baltimore and found myself craving city life.
I have spent the past 7 years growing to love Atlanta, and I find new things that I love about this city all the time: especially the food (and the gorgeous restaurant branding that goes with it).
However, I am also eager to travel and to work in the industry. I am open to working just about anywhere for the right company.
I worked at Tenet Healthcare in Atlanta after my graduation from SCAD in May of 2015. I learned a lot more about managing websites, marketing automation and designing for the health care industry.
Currently, I work as a graphic designer and social media coordinator at Fidelity Bank in Atlanta where I have learned new CMS and Marketing platforms, have learned to write social media calendars and create accompanying graphics and have created digital and print graphics for the bank.
I have been volunteering with AIGA Atlanta, a design non-profit, since 2015, in an effort to get more involved with the Atlanta design community after graduation. I started the annual Poster Show for our chapter, and have had great success with the event being one of the highest earning and most attended events of the year.
In 2017, I stepped up from Programming Committee Member to Programming Committee Co-Chair and accepted a spot on the AIGA Atlanta Board of Directors. As a board member, I run a committee with my co-chair, and we facilitate all of the events that are run by Programming.
This role requires me to write creative proposals/briefs, secure sponsors, give feedback on graphics, delegate tasks, participate in board meetings, run monthly committee meetings and manage a committee of 15-20 volunteers.
